Drum Workshop Zoom In

Jungle Drummer vs DJ Fu - Workshop 11th June 2009

Back to Overview

26th June 2009

Loud! is the best word to describe this extremely different and entertaining workshop. Jungle Drummer (Chris) and DJ Fu (Anthony) described how drum and bass began, its history and its musical routes and influences throughout its growth so far. They also explained in great detail the history of sampling and how that has affected and encouraged the rise of drum and bass from an underground scene into (for some artists) the mainstream. They went on to discuss about working and performing in the music industry during the current economic climate, this was very relevant and useful information for students to hear from people directly involved in the industry.

After several amusing and compelling industry anecdotes and opinions (that cannot be mentioned here!) Jungle Drummer and DJ Fu proceeded to perform to us. This was very original and exciting as I have never seen live DJ-ing and drumming performed simultaneously.

Finally, this was a particularly interesting workshop which was quite unique compared to any other workshop we have had at SAE Oxford. Also, we were definitely grateful for the advice from the previous health and safety workshop about hearing protection!
