George Shilling Guest Lecture 16th June 2009
23rd June 2009
Continuing SAE's guest lecture series, we welcomed Producer / Engineer George Shilling to our Oxford Campus for a special workshop on the art of "FAST WORK" ... the insiders secrets to turning around recording project on a tight time schedule.
As well as being a multi talented musician, George's production credits also include such artists as Lisa Stansfield, The Soup Dragons, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub, Blur, Texas, Steve Winwood Ocean Colour Scene and many many more. Alongside his extensive production jobs, George also finds time to write equipment reviews for Resolution Magazine and present video interviews on recordproduction.com.
During the workshop George broke down his production timeline from initial demo to finished project, playing the sequential ProTools sessions from a recent recording session with band: Neon Kicks. Along the way giving excellent tips that have been learnt over many years in commercial studios, but also adding tip on the things that especially apply to project studios; advice that can dramatically reduce time wasting on sessions.
George also had a great number of funny and insightful anecdotes from the record industry... most that can't be mentioned here!
A big thank you to George, we will be welcoming him back very soon for more advice and anecdotes!
