Exceptional Student Scholarship

There are only two Centres of Excellence: SAE Oxford and SAE Byron Bay. SAE Oxford runs a unique, worldwide 'Exceptional Student Scholarship' (ESS) program. This system attracts the world's most promising audio engineers, music producers, film makers and creative media professionals to the Centre of Excellence in Oxford, making this the world's premiere digital and creative media campus.

Who are the Scholarships for?

To be eligible for an ESS scholarship, you must be a graduate of a diploma program of any of SAE's campuses worldwide. You must have successfully completed the diploma program, and provide substantial evidence of academic and practical excellence, as well as letters of support from two referees. Why SAE Oxford?

The Centre of Excellence at SAE Oxford combines the very best in facilities with a unique learning environment. The £20 million facility offers state of the art equipment, including Neve Genesys, DigiDesign Icon, Pro Tools, edit suites and green screen studios with a university style campus.

Scholarship Levels

Level 1 - Scholarship Requirements & Application

This scholarship is awarded to students displaying outstanding academic and practical ability. This is assessed on the basis of an official application, including Diploma grades and coursework, as well as previous work experience, academic achievements or practical projects.

  1. Professional, Practical and Operational Skills Assessment
    • Through an advanced understanding of the technology, the student will be able to control and apply the technology to the creative realisation of an assignment. This includes creatively justified decisions and must involve a high level of thought, insight and planning. The student has a demonstrated ability to use facilities in a correct and technically advanced manner. There should be no evidence of over- or under-use of the equipment but rather a confident and skilful demonstration of advanced practical abilities. The student will have displayed a thorough understanding of all operational aspects relating to the use of a broad range of practical facilities. The student will have experience in a variety of professional environments, and demonstrate a strong sense of initiative.
  2. Critical Thinking / Cognitive Abilities Assessment
    • The student shows an excellent command of English and the terms and concepts relevant to the subject. The student uses these terms in a precise manner to demonstrate a thorough understanding of processes, issues, events and relationships. The student should make excellent use of received opinion and make clear the distinction between opinion, substantiated opinion and fact. The student will also show a developed ability to formulate valid and fully supported conclusions, judgements or decisions. The student will have received consistently excellent results in all aspects of the Diploma program.
  3. Award
    • 60% of Tuition Fees
  4. Basic Conditions*
    • Degree must be completed in full;
    • 100 hours of work-placement to be completed at SAE Byron Bay, Studios 301, AMS Neve, or associated companies;
    • £5,000 deposit, refundable upon successful completion of the degree.

Level 2 - Scholarship Requirements & Application

This scholarship is awarded to students displaying excellent academic and practical ability. This is assessed on the basis of an official application, including Diploma grades and coursework, as well as previous work experience, academic achievements or practical projects.

  1. Professional, Practical and Operational Skills Assessment
    • Through an thorough understanding of the technology, the student will be able to control and apply the technology to the creative realisation of an assignment. This will include strong evidence of creatively justified decisions and involve a reasonably high level of thought, insight and planning. The student will have used the facilities in a correct and technically competent manner. There should be no evidence of over- or under-use of the equipment but rather a reasonably confident and skilful demonstration of strong practical abilities. The student will have displayed a thorough understanding of all operational aspects relating to the use of a broad range of practical facilities.
  2. Critical Thinking / Cognitive Abilities Assessment
    • The student shows a good command of English and the use of subject-specific terms, and uses them efficiently to demonstrate a thorough understanding of processes, issues, events and relationships. The student should make good use of received opinion and make clear the distinction between opinion, substantiated opinion and fact. The student will also show an ability to formulate valid and fully supported conclusions, judgements or decisions. The student will have received excellent results in many aspects of the Diploma program.
  3. Award
    • 40% of Tuition Fees
  4. Basic Conditions*
    • Degree must be completed in full;
    • £2,500 deposit, refundable upon successful completion of the degree.

Level 3 - Scholarship Requirements & Application

This scholarship is awarded to students displaying substantially above-average academic and practical ability. This is assessed on the basis of an official application, including Diploma grades and coursework, as well as previous work experience, academic achievements or practical projects.

  1. Professional, Practical and Operational Skills Assessment
    • Through a satisfactory understanding of the technology, the student will be able to control and apply the technology to the creative realisation of an assignment. This will include some evidence of creatively justified decisions, thought, insight and planning. The student will have used the facilities in a correct and technically competent manner. There should be little evidence of over- or under-use of the equipment but rather a satisfactory demonstration of competent practical abilities on a range of equipment.
  2. Critical Thinking / Cognitive Abilities Assessment
    • The student shows a satisfactory command of English, has a good grasp of related terminology and provides clear evidence of an understanding of the processes, issues, events and relationships. The student should make competent use of received opinion but occasionally misrepresent opinion, substantiated opinion and fact. The student will also show an ability to formulate valid and supported conclusions, judgements or decisions. The student will have consistently above-average results in all aspects of the Diploma program.
  3. Award
    • 20% of Tuition Fees
  4. Basic Conditions*
    • Degree must be completed in full;
    • £1,000 deposit, refundable upon successful completion of the degree.
